HypSi™ — electromechanical prelithiation, built for the line
Most prelithiation methods were designed for the lab: slow, hard to dose, or difficult to integrate. HypSi™ was designed from the start as a continuous roll-to-roll step that fits into industrial electrode production.
Fast
From 70 seconds per process step instead of hours of electrochemical treatment. Fast enough for continuous roll-to-roll lines.
Lithium and SEI in one step
HypSi™ does not only add lithium. It pre-forms the solid electrolyte interphase on the anode, so cell formation and aging can be significantly shortened.
One process from lab to line
The same principle runs on electrode sheets in the lab and on continuous coils, so development results carry over to scale-up.
What this means for your cell
- Compensates irreversible first-cycle capacity loss
- Shorter formation and aging means lower process cost and less capital tied up in production
- Works with silicon, graphite and composite anodes
- Chemistry-independent on the cathode side (LFP, NMC, LCO)
Where HypSi™ comes from
HypSi™ is 70.energy's industrialisation solution for electromechanical prelithiation. The underlying technology was invented by Dr. Masaharu Satoh and his team in Japan, building on decades of research in lithium-ion and lithium-ion capacitor materials. With HypSi™, 70.energy brings this technology to industrial scale in Europe.
Patented technology
The technology behind HypSi™ is protected by granted patents in Japan, the United States and China, with a European application pending. A related patent family covers prelithiated silicon anodes for LFP cells.
Demonstrated performance
| Metric | Value | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Energy density | 336 Wh/kg | Demonstrated (validated cell, 15.24 Ah) |
| Cycle life | ~500 cycles at A/C = 2 | Demonstrated |
| Full-cell first-cycle efficiency | enables up to 99 % | Demonstrated |
| Cell cost impact | −15 % to −25 % | LFP, internal case study |
Where we are heading (targets)
- Energy density
- > 350 Wh/kg
- Cycle life
- 1,000–2,000 cycles
Demonstrated figures come from validated cells. Targets are development goals, not guaranteed results. The final cell result depends on your cathode, electrolyte and cell design. Cost figures refer to an internal LFP case study and vary with cell design.
